About the Author
Neville Wylie was Junior Research Fellow and British Academy Post-Doctoral Fellow at New Hall and at the Centre of International Studies in Cambridge. Since leaving Cambridge in 1998 he has held positions at the University of Glasgow, where he was acting director of the Scottish Centre for War Studies, and University College Dublin and has been a visiting lecturer at the Graduate Institute for International Affairs in Geneva. He has published a number of articles in scholarly journals and is author of a forthcoming monograph on British policy towards Switzerland, 1939-1945.

A terribly biased study. The author dismisses as flawed all the studies that try to defend Switzerland or look at the historical context. On the other hand, the author is fully endorsing without any analysis or facts checking the most outrageous books (mostly written by polemicists, not historians) blasting the Swiss policies during the 2nd world war.

Harlan Ellison has been called “one of the great living American short story writers” by the Washington Post. In a career spanning more than fifty years, he has won more awards than any other living fantasist. Ellison has written or edited one hundred fourteen books; more than seventeen hundred stories, essays, articles, and newspaper columns; two dozen teleplays; and a dozen motion pictures. He has won the Hugo Award eight and a half times (shared once); the Nebula Award three times; the Bram Stoker Award, presented by the Horror Writers Association, five times (including the Lifetime Achievement Award in 1996); the Edgar Award of the Mystery Writers of America twice; the Georges Melies Fantasy Film Award twice; and two Audie Awards (for the best in audio recordings); and he was awarded the Silver Pen for Journalism by PEN, the international writers’ union. 7 Sci-fi stories by Harlan Ellison

This collection of short fiction by Harlan Ellison consists of only seven stories. It was originally published in the late 1960’s and a second edition was released in 1983—the latter being the edition I read. Despite a bit of Cold War zeitgeist--most notably in the title story—this collection holds up well to time.

I’ll proceed by discussing each of the seven stories.

1.) “I Have No Mouth & I Must Scream”: It’s after World War III, the Soviets, Americans, and Chinese had built artificial intelligences (AIs) to help prosecute the war. The AIs ganged up against humanity and exterminated all humans—excepting five individuals (4 men and 1 woman.) The AI finds a way to indefinitely extend the lives of the five so that it can keep its playthings around. The AI is kind of like a sadistic child with an ant farm. The story is told from the perspective of one of the five remaining humans.

2.) “Big Sam Was My Friend”: A folksy narrator tells the tale of how a fellow interstellar circus performer met his ends. The deceased, Big Sam, was capable of teleportation, like the character Nightcrawler (Kurt Wagner) in the X-men. Ellison does an excellent job of creating a unique character and tone in this story.

3.) “Eyes of Dust”: On a planet of beautiful people, there remains a family of uggos--and the child is the ugliest of all. However, ugliness isn’t the boy’s only unique trait. This is one of the weaker stories of the collection in my opinion, but it’s not bad.

4.) “World of The Myth”: The three-person crew of a spaceship crashes on an unfamiliar planet. The planet is inhabited by ant-like creatures that can form complex shapes, and through such displays the creatures can reflect the essence of who a person is back at them. This proves more than the despicable captain of the small crew can bear.

5.) “Lonelyache”: This story is more realism than speculative fiction—or at least I interpreted it that way. It’s about a guy who’s gone through a divorce recently, and is living alone. The story intersperses recurringly-themed dreams in which men are trying to kill the lead character, with waking sequences which revolve around the man’s troubled relationships with women.

6.) “Delusion For a Dragon Slayer”: In the Introduction, we are told by Theodore Sturgeon that the description in this story is very much how people on hallucinogens experience the world. I can see what Sturgeon is saying. The story begins with a series of vignettes about people who died for no logical reason and at the least likely times. The story then tells an extended tale of one such death, that of the lead character, in a way that mixes dream and reality in a way that’s hard to differentiate.

7.) “Pretty Maggie Moneyeyes”: A man in Las Vegas hits the jackpot on a slot machine. He feels compelled to engage in the very sucker-like behavior of playing the same machine again, but he wins again and then keeps winning. The casino obviously suspects foul play with the second jackpot, but they can’t find anything wrong with the machine or any way in which the man might be cheating. All their investigation reveals is that a woman had died playing that machine some time before.

I’d recommend this book for those who like short speculative fiction. The best of the stories are outstanding, and the worst of them are still intriguing and readable. I will say that it’s not a collection for readers with delicate sensibilities--including young readers. (e.g. Rape is a theme that repeats in a couple of stories.)

Like catching up with old friends!

I first found Harlan Ellison in my teens. I don't know that I understood all he wrote but I liked it! I've moved many times but his books have always made the trip. Entire book shelf has nothing but Ellison. Now that my hands don't work as well I am gradually filling up my Kindle with his stories.

This book is full of brilliant stories. If you haven't read them before buy this book now. If you've read them before a return trip always reveals more.

Money well-spent

There aren't many books that I read through and then turn right around and re-read, but this is one of them. Such a "wealth" of information on the subject of what to do when faced with a sudden wealth event. My second time through, I will be taking notes and making lists. I found the book to be very wise and comprehensive. The companion web-site has not launched yet at the time I am writing this, but promises to be full of resources such as recommendations for advisors and tools to gain a better understanding of oneself and money habits through self tests. I believe in being true to myself, but to do that, I must first know myself. I found this book really opened my eyes to some truths about myself and has made me more aware of my strengths and weaknesses. in summary,buying this book was money well-spent!

This Book is a Gold Mine.

I read over 100 business/finance/self-help books per year and I must say, this book is one of the best books that I have read in a long, long time.

Not only does it offer tons of practical advice for sudden wealth recipients, it also dives deeply into the often overlooked psychological forces which influence the recipients of sudden wealth and their families/friends. The author has a way of distilling complex ideas into actionable and easy-to-implement steps, which makes this book far more powerful than most other books on wealth.

I that would highly recommend this book for anyone who wants practical advice on all aspects of how to protect, grow and manage wealth.

A refreshing read with crucial advice not often covered in personal finance books! When you experience a “sudden wealth” event and your finances change overnight, what do you do? Even a small inheritance can radically improve your financial life – how do you avoid blowing your new fortune? Why do so many lottery winners go broke, and how can you steer clear of this? These are some of the many questions answered in this book.

I read a lot of books on personal finance (to keep my own finances in check), and not often do I find myself so engaged during my read. Not only does this book offer a step-by-step roadmap to preserving new wealth (in 12 clever principles), it’s also filled with personal anecdotes by the author, the psychological factors that influence our financial behaviors (why do we save and spend like we do?) and valuable resources that everyday people can turn to.

Overnight your finances can change, and this book breaks down the many different scenarios and steps you can take to ensure that you protect your finances for your future and your loved ones. Even a small windfall can make a big difference if you manage your money right, and this book is a great starting point for financial help and guidance.

Learning how to manage “sudden wealth” (or any amount of money), shouldn’t feel like a chore, and this book is an enjoyable read to get started!

This book is very good, in fact, its excellent. I am encouraging all student nurses and practicing nurses to purchase this book. Its everything a nurse needs to provide evidence-based care. It' sad to see in the profile of the editor that she passed away. She will live forever. May her soul rest in eternal peace.

pretty darn easy to understand. i was one of those lucky students to get NO guidance from instructors who suddenly were commenting "this is not a nursing diagnosis" (not kidding), and this book saved me. several other classmates bought it as well. when your instructors suck, at least there's this book.

Blurred Expectations Exceeded My Expectations!

I have been waiting for this novella since I first heard it was going to be written. I love this series and really loved the story of this mating. I read the first chapter on Carrie Ann's blog a while ago and was crushed. Experiencing Hannah's emotions while they are so desperately trying to start a family was powerful. I was so happy when it was finally up on Amazon yesterday so I could finish the story and get to the HEA Carrie Ann is known for. The story was beautifully written and had the emotional journey of the three along with some adventure and the heat Carrie Ann is well known for. I was afraid the topic would be too emotional for me, but Carrie Ann nailed it in an authentic way. If you have not read at least Trinity Bond, this book will probably not be something you are interested in. The story is complete, but I feel you would be missing the connections needed to make it the great read that it is.

Blurred Expectations
Hannah, Josh and Reed are not your typical"couple". Brought together from tragedy, now very much in love with each other. All 3 love unconditionally and are made for one another. With all the other women in the Jamenson family having babies, Hannah never excepted her to have troubles getting pregnant. With 2 men, it should be easy. As the months have gone by, the stress mounts and depression kicks in. The men are at a loss and don't know how to confront the issue. So they plan on showing her how much she is needed. But as she goes and helps inlaws with babies. She can't fathom how she can be a healing witch, yet not be able to conceive. Josh and Reed are also starting to doubt themselves and the bond between them is in jeopardy. When Josh's military past comes back, with it brings danger not just to the Red Wood Pack but maybe the whole shifter community.

I love the Redwood Pack series. Revisiting Hannah and her men is pretty awesome. Great addition to the series. Not really a read alone book. You could but you might not get the characters nuances. This one hit a little closer to home with me. My husband and myself have had infertility issues. So Hannah, for me was very relate able! All three start to doubt and that is pretty normal when you feel something should be easy and comes with difficulty. Thanks Carrie Ann for the great read.

Yet another great read by Carrie Ann Ryan!

This is such a touching story and still hot. I cared so much for these characters. I got to know them through the rest of the Redwood Pack books. I was so excited to get another taste of this threesome and was not disappointed! I strongly recommend reading the rest of the series before this book-you just need to see the whole picture to truly enjoy it!

Taylor’s book, "The Sugar Daddy Formula," offers a very savvy approach to the business and emotional aspect of Sugar Daddy dating. Much of the information is quite useful outside of this arena as well! Be it goal-setting, a structured and systematic approach to achieving those goals, realizing the importance of marketing and implementing necessary tools for promoting yourself, and even reflecting on oneself as opposed to blaming outside elements for less than desirable results - all of these are very valuable lessons and skillsets. It’s by far an easy choice for anyone to demand what they want, but the more worthwhile approach is always enticing others to want to do what you want them to do. These skills apply well beyond just the SD/SB dynamic.

I read this book intently and plan on re-reading it and referring back to it again. I encourage any girl interested in this lifestyle to do the same! Absorb the information, write down what is directed in the exercises, and refer to it over and over until it is ingrained in your way of thinking. Some of our biggest obstacles in life (and in this lifestyle) can be ourselves, and this includes fear. Fear can cause avoidance, limited thinking and inaction.

I can’t thank Taylor enough for her honesty (even the brutal kind!), insight and ingenious approach.

not a good book for advanced sugar babies

Alright, I had to write a review due to the fact that i am looped in on the emailing list created by the writer so after reciving a couple of emails i had to write a reveiw. lol
Heres my thoughts its helpful for someone who is about 18 whom has probably never been in a relationship before and is ready to make this move. i will 100% back that. Another good thing about this book is that it is an updated manual per sa about this life style. Taylor sometimes comes off as a big sister and anyone can find comfort in that.
Now here is where it gets... yeah i did not get any new information about this book. with that being said i did follow some advice. it didnt matter
this book is for new sugar babies (maybe 18 - 19) who have not had a sugar daddy before this isnt for someone whom is more advanced. it didnt give me any advice on what i would particularly need.
She does break down dating profiles etc to a T, however i don't need any help with that. and the areas where i needed help the most she just said "just go out to an upscale bar" im like "o kay"...
so for me being a sugar baby hoping for some extra tips it wasn't helpful, for me getting new daddies not helpful
for someone just getting a good start, yes this book is perfect for you. or even someone just looking to get into ANY relationship with ground rules... but then again i dont remember a specific place where she was very specific about being specific with your partner which is what i really didn't like. but what i have learned is she seems to write like that even in here blog so. Im happy i bought the book it didn't really help me but it is a comfort being that there is someones else who may have had similar experiences.
with that being said i wont mind trying more of her books but if they all fall flat then i will stop trying.

Useful, but overly repetitive... (conclusion at the end)

DETAILED REVIEW:
Most of us have limited free time, that's why I prefer to have either information bundled or an entertainment factor with these sorts of books. And honestly, though the book contains many useful step for step-strategies it's overly repetitive.
This is not in terms of motivational advices, but also in context with examples and even with concrete instructions (e.g. instructions about creating your sugar baby allure; it's around page 58 & following, then again around p.92 following, then p. 133f, p.144f again).
Taylor uses the same examples over and over and thus provides only a few in total. For example her two passions cigars and dancing are used for nearly every single allure: let it be headlines, a positive/passionate approach in the profile text, in first and in second messages and for planning your allure. While this is consequent on one hand, it's not providing enough variety on the other. (Btw it's 13 examples with cigars and 11 with dance)
All in all you can find a lot of overall and helpful guidance with lack in details, but also an unnecessary amount of advertising for the book itself. The author uses a nearly annoying amount of fillers (� la "you must lean to do xy", then "read further how to do xy" followed by "now you read how to do xy" before she actually shares the information).

CONCLUSION: The book could have been written in around 30 - 50 pages and still contain the same information

RECOMMENDATION? only for aspiring/non-successful Sugar Babys; it doesn't provide enough entertainment nor information for general readers

After searching high and low I finally found this book at Amazon. I had already researched the book and knew which one I wanted to buy but was a little concerned as to the possible delivery delays to Australia. Not only did the book arrive exactly as described and very well packaged... the delivery was very fast and it arrived within the timeframe quoted by Amazon. It is an excellent resource for anyone travelling to Sumatra. Most books available also cover Indonesia but this book concentrates wholely and solely on Sumatra. I was unable to purchase this book in Australia and Amazon really saved the day!
