Professor Patrick Georges is a neurosurgeon with a passion for improving management and business organization through the development of the concept of organizational intelligence. He is the author of several works, including The Six-Figure Manager (published by Kogan Page).
Professor Anne-Sophie Bayle-Tourtoulou has taught marketing across several programs of the HEC Group for many years, with a focus on the retail sector. She has worked on various projects in this sector, including product ranges, retailers' own brands, pricing and promotional policies.
Professor Michel Badoc has taught marketing for many years, mostly at the institutions within the HEC Group, but also schools such as the CESB and ENASS. He also develops appraisal and consultancy activities for companies in Europe and North America.

Nice insights in why the brain works the way it does

The first parts of the book are great. The authors combine marketing with neuroscience very well. Where other books mostly describe what works, this book also explains why the brain reacts like this. Unfortunately, the last part of the book was more general about how brands are perceived by consumers. If you are a marketer, you will not learn much from this. Another minor point is that it is repetitive. Not only in what they discuss, but also the examples. Some examples are multiple times described in the exact same detail (for example: Colruyt, Coca-Cola, Nike).

In sum: great book which learns marketers more about why the brain works the way it does. Only slightly repetitive and the last part is about general marketing knowledge. I would recommend this book for the first parts.

Not sure where they get their info on neuromarketing but some of it is not accurate. Some of the explanation are also not described accurately. Would not recommend.

A good book if you are interested in European Imperialism

As much of the books in the Problems in European Civilization Series, this book is great for people who have gone through history classes wishing to understand a period, aspect or event in history better.

This book deals with many of the major theories on the cause of european imperialism and why it is that it ultimately failed (there are even writings from Lenin and Ghandi in this book on the subject of imperialism). One of the most interesting things I learned about European imperialism is that the europeans taught their colonial subjects about their own struggles for independence, rights and representative government, inadvertantly planting and watering the seeds of colonial independence. They even have a section where a native of the dutch colony of indonesia (who was interested in Indonesian independence) wrote to and lectured the Dutch colonial authorities about this very thing.

Seeing Lenin's view of imperialism was interesting, although it was easy to see how misguided the man was thinking there would be a transition from european imperialism to world-wide communism. Trust me, he doesnt actually

John Dennis Fitzgerald intended to chronicle his youth in Utah for adults, not children. His publisher thought otherwise and the result are these gems. I don't even call them children's lit gems because I find them just as enjoyable as an adult. Before I go on, you should know that Fitzgerald wrote one book about his youth that is for adults, called "Papa Married a Mormon". It is one of the most amazing books on the American west that I have ever read. Sadly, it is out of print, and you may, like me, have to pay an exorbitant sum to get a copy. Trust me, save up and do it. Now back to this book. Every single Great Brain book in the series is pure gold, and the entire set can be had cheaply, so I say buy them all at once. I "put my money where my mouth is" as Tom the Great Brain would say, and bought the lot.

An Unforgettable Classic: A Must Read

John D. Fitzgerald, in the tradition of Mark Twain, wrote a semi-fictitious account of his childhood as a Mormon in Utah. The milieu and time for "The Great Brain" series is a Victorian, early 1900's era, making the stories more in the lines of Tom Sawyer and Huck Fynn. But that does not belittle this timeless classic written in the 70's. The Great Brain is in fact an interesting character to follow. The stories are told from the point of view of his younger brother, as he follows him through many schemes (all of which are money scams) and escapades, which somehow wind down to moral lessons. The Great Brain is a humorous, brilliant and witty work of historic fiction that is sure to touch every reader in some way. I first read the series as a young child myself, growing up in much the same way The Great Brain does- a strict religious family that promotes hard work and academic education. These stories are hard to find nowadays, Victorian morales having slipped away somehow in our modern day. I am glad to know that Amazon.com still has these great books and I recommend them to everyone, young and old. For me, reading the novels was a form of escape, as well as an insightful glimpse of a time that was far more innocent than our own- the violent gangs of today and MTV, Britney Spears, Joy of Pepsi, Ossie Osbourne generation compare nothing to the rebelliousnes of the Great Brain. All of the books are enjoyable, and it is not until the last book in the series, "The Great Brain Reforms" (the name says it all) that we discover the startling growth and changes the punky, swindling, intelligent adult-trapped in the body of a child Great Brain undergoes. A Must Read.

Funny and realistic..An excellent book for all ages

The "Great Brain"(also known as Tom) is one of the most clever characters I have ever seen. He proves to be above both the children as well as the adults with his money-loving heart and his great brain. Tom manages to swindle every single child in his town (especially his simple-minded brother) and gets away with it most of the time. He could argue his way out of everything and he uses this advantage over others to have his own way over everything. I loved this book mainly because it was hilarious and was very realistically written by the author. I would certainly recommend this book to anybody who loves to read!! The "Great Brain" reminds me a lot of what I used to do to my brother, Chandu, when we were little. I used to get my way with him every time just like the Great Brain did with his brother, John.

Snarfquest - A trip down memory lane!

I was an old D&D player in my teenage years, and avidly followed the adventures of Snarf in every issue. I thought it was well written then, and having purchased this, I'm happy to say that Snarfquest has stood the test of time. It's a well drawn strip, with touches of humour throughout, and would be enjoyed by almost anyone with an interest fantasy gaming, as well as in the fantasy book / adventure genre.

Finally Completed Reading the Quest for Crown Saga

When I spotted a copy of Snarfquest--The Book at a used book store, I snatched right away. It was practically a reflex action.

Now here was my chance to read the complete "Quest for the Crown" saga!

Snarf, a blundering adventurer, is on a year-long quest to gain the most fame and fortune in order to become King of Zeetville.

Mayhem ensues.

Since I was never a subscriber to "Dragon" Magazine, I've only read bits and pieces of Larry Elmore's comic strip. Now I'm happy I've had the chance to read this comedic tale in its entirety. Elmore's story is quirky-funny to the point of being silly. However, as a gamer, I remember many a game session that started with serious intent, only to have it degenerate into silliness.

In addition to the 225 images, 200 of which appear in color, the catalog includes personal reflections and critical analyses. All of the artists in the exhibition contribute personal statements about their work in relation to the vinyl record, and critics and scholars explore the historical impact of the record on art and music and the ways the medium has helped shape individual and collective identities.

Sauntering for the Soul

Margaret is a dedicated walker, but not just through her beloved hollow or the streets of the various big cities in which she has landed throughout her life. Margaret walks with God. That sounds a little higher and mightier than it should for someone who is so down to earth, and more than she would be comfortable reading, I suspect, but it is true. The practical simplicity and intentional exercise of discovery that an unhurried walk invites is reflective of the revealed tenor of her companionship with the Holy One, and it is this simplicity of discovery to which she invites all of us within these pages.

Through well-crafted storyweaving of personal experience and Scripture, we are given time and space to step onto the path ourselves with those who have walked before us: Adam & Eve, Moses, the Israelites, Mary the mother of Jesus and Joseph her husband, Jesus himself and a number of others whose walking and stumblings are recorded for us in Scripture. We can retrace the well-traveled paths of mystery, gift, disappointment, wonder and unknowing - those familiar places of transformation that we have all experienced in various ways and times in our own lives. With a wise, good humor of self and gentle bedrock orientation of belief, Margaret's own stories, musings and lessons learned offer us companionship that is not only current with our times but congruent with the Eternal Now in the kind of walking she describes. We come to realize as we read and reflect that they are us and we are them; we are, all of us, each of us, meandering and beloved.

Typical of the integrating spirit of her other works, this book is a fresh example of The Rule of St. Benedict's sense, "nothing harsh, nothing burdensome." Though addressing spiritual hills and valleys, like the well-known spiritual companion she is, Margaret leaves out the mental gymnastics to offer instead direct, loving attention to the lived experience of the soul during such times via short, readable chapters ideal for picking up, putting down, and picking up again. Deep yet wonderfully unrarified insights may simply sneak up on you as you read and reflect yourself, inciting a growing feeling that you do not walk alone. And, I think, that just might be Margaret's mission here.

Walking

This book was purchased for a study group at my church. We are enjoying it very much, reading two chapters a week and discussing. Margaret Guenther writes so well, she is a pleasure to read. In this, she ties those stories and events from both the Old and New Testaments in the Christian Scripture to her own life, and today's world. She often gives us a new way to look at an old, old story. We are never quite sure what we will get when we pick a book for this group, but this one does not disappoint and will have us all out searching for other books by this author.

Margaret's wisdom, learning, caring and imagination, skilfully interwoven, come right through this book. It is a delight to read as all her books. The biblical stories come so alive, and her beautiful writing points us all to the one great book we need to read and meditate upon, above all others, (the Bible), and to the person (Jesus) with whom we need to have a relationship with and to follow.
