Unattractive pictures. Only one page (small amount of text) about strategies for addressing dyslexia. Includes the fact that "a generation ago" people with LD were called "stupid." Don't see any value in this book.

As a school counselor, I have been looking for a book that is accessible to my students that are struggling with visual disabilities and dyslexia. This book speaks right to the student. It also has a strong message that students with learning differences are smart and capable, and, if they get the right help, can achieve anything.

Revealing the human side of the latter Scholastic period

As the introduction included in this volume is clear to point out, Gerson is not a seminal and towering influence over subsequent intellectual developments. Gerson is, however, notable for the reader interested in the decline of the medieval scholastic tradition, for with Gerson's writtings one finds a marked departure from the disputations which dominated thirteenth and fourteenth century theology. Rather there is a move towards writting to increasingly wider audiences in increasingly plain language, anticipating modernity's tendency to emphasize more exoteric writing.

But what is most engaging, and what should garner interest in this volume, is Gerson's honest portrayal of his own inner life. Seen by a modern reader to be at times fair and loving, at times harsh and needlessly austere, and always willing to present his own weaknesses, failures, and needs, Gerson reveals the humanity of his own era in a way which allows us to recognize our own.

This volume became indispensable for all those interested in Gerson and he is worth to be interested in! Brian McGuire did an exceptional job. Highly recommended for specialists but also for all those interested in medieval spirituality.

About the Author
Ray Sinnott's varied career, mainly in design and development, began with several major companies including Dupont and John Brown. The main areas covered within these appointments were: Gas Production and Distribution, Nuclear Energy, Elastomers and Textile fibres.

After his career in industry he joined the Chemical Engineering Department, University of Wales Swansea in 1970, specialising in teaching process and plant design, and other engineering practice subjects.

The first edition of Chemical Engineering Design (Coulson and Richardson’s Vol 6) was published in 1983. Subsequent editions have been published at approximately 5 year intervals.

Ray Sinnott retired from full time teaching in 1995 but has maintained close contact with the engineering profession.

Great Catalog for options are available

I found this book be an excellent summary of equipment capacities. There a several tables showing ranges of equipment based on a particular process variable and pro/con tables to aid in your selection. What is in short supply are anything but basic design equations for equipment. This is also true for an old favorite of mine: "Handbook of Separation Techniques for Chemical Engineers" by Philip A. Schweitzer. This textbook is less current, may be more useful for basic design, though more narrow.

My suggestion is to have Schweitzer and Sinnott's book in the design section of your professional library. Be careful with this book because it is paperback.

This book is an excellent book for a Chemical Engineer final year student or Chemical/Process Engineer professional. It outlines the whole spectrum for Process Engineer design, from management skills for a project, preferrable site location, actual design of Process equipment/vessels, etc. This book is definately an execellent buy for a Chemical/Process Engineer.

Waffles are the new cupcake, or should be. This book, Waffles- Sweet, Savory, Simple by Dawn Yanagihara is a great example of why.

The introduction shows someone who is very enthused about these moist, crisp, perfectly pocketed food. It also discusses the ingredients used in most of the recipes and how those ingredients can affect the final outcome and how to figure out baking times for your waffle iron to make the perfect waffle. It also talks about freezing and reheating waffles and tips for making waffles.

Then it gets into the fun part, the recipes. Chapter 1-Waffles Plain and Simple, those basic waffles that allow your choice of toppings to shine. Most of the recipes in this book use baking soda or baking powder to make them rise, but the Belgian waffle recipe in this section is one of two yeast waffles and it's my favorite recipe in this section. It takes a little time to make but it's well worth it. For quicker, also incredibly tasty waffles, the Golden Cornmeal Waffles are crispy and make a good base for savory or sweet toppings.

Chapter 2 is Fruit, Nuts and Not-So-Plain Waffles, and has those breakfast waffles that a treat. You expect something like Wild Blueberry-Buttermilk Waffles which would also work well with other small berries, less expected but also very good, Spicy Pumpkin Waffles or Cornmeal and Bacon Waffles.

Chapter 3 is Savories, my son's favorite. He always prefers savory to sweet, and gets very excited about things like Smoked Salmon and Creme Fraiche waffles. If you really want to go over the top, Fried Chicken and Waffles with Bacon Gravy is another recipe in this chapter.

Chapter 4 is Waffle Finales which are dessert like waffles, some with a gourmet touch such as my personal favorite in the whole cookbook, Waffles with Sweet Goat Cheese, Cherries in Port Syrup and Toasted Almonds which start with basic waffles, then get gloriously topped. My daughter likes the meringue topped S'morish Waffles.

Chapter 5 is To Top It Off is toppings for waffles. I've made honeyed cream cheeses before but never thought of maple syrup cream cheese which is simple, easy and good. Lemon Curd is more time consuming but an absolute classic with scones that works well with waffles as well.

The book has gorgeous photographs, well written recipes, and is hard cover bound. It would make a good gift as well as being a nice themed cookbook in your collection. A good index and table of contents make it easy to find specific recipes. Recipes have measurements both by metric weight and by American volume. I definitely recommend it to waffle enthusiasts.

Wonderful recipes for any time of day.

This is a great cookbook if you are looking for something out of the ordinary when it comes to making waffles. One of my favorite recipes is the toasted oatmeal waffles with a hint of cinnamon. Delicious!

Yummy Waffles!

Have tried out most of the waffles in this book and they are great! The recipes are simple yet have complex flavors. We have waffles probably every other week and my 3 year old and husband enjoy them. There are some classic recipes and then several new and fun recipes to try out. Overall I am very happy with this cookbook.
